To be honest I wasn’t expecting a whole lot out of the story Ground Zero. The story started kinda slow, this zombie apocalypse was a result of terrorism. Jack Cutter the hero seemed more of an average person instead of a survivalist or former military person. He had very little confidence in his own abilities and wasn’t a very good shot either. At the beginning of his part of the story he seemed to have a death wish and attempted to help everyone. At least in this story it appears that the zombies might rot away over time. A miracle or a death wish pushed him to meet Father Bob and Samantha. If you interested in how a normal person might survive the zombie apocalypse this is a book for you. I love this book and I will read more of the author’s work.Tags : Ground Zero: A Zombie Apocalypse [Nicholas Ryan] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. I like what this Author is doing. It's full package start to finish complete. What makes it even BETTER is the non stop action without an over abundance of gore. Great writing skills too.
I love all the kindle books, I read nightly and enjoy a quick escape. Thank you for getting me back into books! I sent a kindle to my young granddaughter and she is now reading more then ever and improving at school as well!
Finished this book in one sitting, was a pretty fast read. Did not know how to answer some of the review questions... "Is there violence?" - DUH... It is about zombies eating people alive OF COURSE THERE IS VIOLENCE! "Is there sexual content" - It turns out that some of the female survivors would do anything to live another day - like throw themselves at any man they thought could protect them and get them out of a horrible situation. Guess what so would a guy! Some of the readers have "zeroed" or one-starred this book because they (apparently) feel that the author treats women as some sort of sex object or chattel - boobs and a butt with legs. But who is to say that his opinion on how the world will look the day AFTER the end of the world is not valid? Sure there will be roving gangs of thugs killing and robbing to live, and yes there will be lots of weaker people taken advantage of (read that as women will be raped and traded to be raped again). Stock up on ammunition and canned goods it's gonna be a bumpy ride!
"Ground Zero A Zombie Apocalypse" was easy to read and flowed well. Jack Cutter, a struggling artist, is rescued during the outbreak of a zombie virus and then reluctantly put in charge of a small group of survivors in the basement of a book store. He is befriended by an employee, a shipping clerk who is also a survivalist, he's planned for something like this all his life. He has a well defended fortress, a generator, guns, ammunition and enough food and water to survive for the next six months - he was leaving first thing in the morning to get back there. Unfortunately for the group, the clerk sneaks out on his own during the night and makes his escape toward home.
Without a choice, those remaining must leave for the countryside without any delay. Three teams of four survivors leave their sanctuary at 30 minute intervals in a quest to escape the powerful zombies who stop at nothing to reach them. Jack's group manages to successfully reach a car , making good their escape from the downtown area, however, Jack changes his mind at the last second and doesn't leave with them. Instead, he is drawn to an apartment complex and is rescued once again, but this time by a Pastor and his daughter. Overnight, they convince him that a higher power has other plans in store for him,
Mr. Ryan paints exceptional scenes and delivers edge of your seat, thrilling action during the story - at times, I felt like I was right there with Jack and company. It felt so real that often I thought I could feel the hot stinking breath of a zombie on the back of my neck. Great read! Looking forward to reading other books by this author. Great job Mr. Ryan!

As far as zombie apocalypse novels go it's not bad. It was a little short on character development and the main character, for only losing his wife and child a week prior to the apocalypse, seems quick to build another relationship... But this is an end of the world scenario so who knows?
Quick read and a sort of happy ending give it 4 stars, but it loses one because the ending is abrupt, characters are not very dynamic, and there are some grammatical errors that can distract from the story.
I would recommend this for a light read to zombie new comers. Parents should be cognizant of some sexual situations...
One of the best zombie novels of all time. People are hating on the novel because they don't like to be confronted with the truth about gender relations in desperate situations and they don't like to see women portrayed as people who are just as flawed as men. Read the novel and give it a chance before slamming it.
This author is now becoming one of my new favorites. After enjoying DJ Milled and his Remaining series, I have come to love zombie novels. However, not everyone has the capability to write an entrancing zombie novel. Nicholas Ryan and DJ Milled knows what it takes. READ THIS BOOK, you will be craving for more, just like I am right now!!
